Our People

Susan Peters is the owner of the Silver Maple Icelandic Horse Farm. Susan spent most of her working career in financial services, most recently as CEO of eSecLending, a global securities lending firm. In 2007 she sold her interest in that company and began realizing her dream of owning a horse farm.

Jana Meyer is the primary trainer and instructor at the farm. She began riding at 5 years of age and from that moment on has had a passion for the Icelandic horse. Jana is an IPZV certified trainer and instructor. Her focus is on creating a high level of communication between horse and rider. She has successfully trained riders ranging from young children to world-class competitors. Her interest in equine fitness also led her to become a certified horse masseuse. Since spring 2011, Jana also holds a certification as a Centered Riding Instructor Level 1.

Thomas Hoyt is the farm manager. He makes sure the farm runs smoothly and is highly skilled in everything mechanical. He recently returned from Iceland where he learned about hoof trimming. He also maintains the farm's many beehives and runs an active maple syrup operation. Thomas is a man of many hats and gets the job done!

Becky Hoyt is the farm's assistant trainer. Her background is in dressage where she actively competed. She holds a degree in Equine Management from Wilson College.

Caeli Cavanagh is Susan's youngest daughter and is also a trainer at the farm. An active competitor who competed at the FEIF Youth Cup in Austria in 2006. She was also the sole youth rider on the United States Team that competed in the World Championships in Brunnadern, Switzerland in 2009. Caeli is a student at Dartmouth College.
